Why?

I am not really sure to be honest, peope just like to tap away i guess. Why do most people make websites? and isnt my website really just a way for me to stick up interconnected content when i feel like it? Still its an interesting question. What does make people put stuff on the net?

I have now got to the stage where you can REGISTER on this site, just you cannot do much. yet. Should have the ability to define your own colour scheme (and text sizes) in a week or so

Check out the phot galleries… you now have a selection of photo sizes to chose from. Need to upload some more larger files (though the site can adjust these for people who want to see smaller images, but quicker)

Trains, planes, and timetables.

A bit of a rant really…

Why have a time table? i always thought the point was so the traveller knew when they would depart, and when they would arrive. The latter being rather useful for those time when you then need to transfer and depart onwards towards your final destination.

I get the impression that Time tables are actually, the time by which you the passenger will be ready for the service (i.e. departure time) if you are late then tough. This is coupled with the time you might arrive (and if they are late and that inconveniences you, then tough)

Is it only british rail companies which add time, so that if they are delayed then there is time to make up?

What brings this about?

Eurostar, thats what. The german train company Deutsche Bahn (there is english info in there…) advertise connections with euro star with a 15mins connection time, this is still on their website, and in the printed time tables my girlfriend has.

Moment of fairnes. They do say you might well miss the connection. But its a joke that their time tables say you can do it, and then Eurostar cannot deliver one to the right place. Hmmm, Euro star say you should leave an hour to connect with mainline stations? do they include kings cross? its fine in a hour from Waterloo, but how about plus a 30min delay?. Wouldnt an integrated transport system be nice?

moral of this story? If i am going to travel to the continent on a friday afternoon (as opposed to catching a train at lunch time) then its going to be a case of spending time in brussels me thinks… there is an “Ibis” hotel over the road from Brussels Midi! Course its cheaper to travel earlier, but that kinda depends on my timetable…

I have been working on modifications ot this site, you can now upload pictures if you have been registered as a techie, and it is now possible to edit posts you have made (if you were logged in when you made them…)

I want to ride my bicycle…

Moved in to my flat yesterday (sunday), sorted out my room, and all that sort of thing. I also bought a D-lock for my bike and a cycle helmet

So now i have to wonder about getting form A to B, or rather Putney to IC. There are some Cycle guides available. Then i guess it is down to me to work out what the route is….

I reckon it should work out quicker than by bus (when you allow for trafic, and also the frequency of a Red Bus)

So what sort of projects do I go for?

what with my final year and all this could actually be an important question… but lets face it, i have done various things over the years, Pre-uni, Firstyear design, summer placements. The question is what excites me, and what do i do a good job in. I am suspecting that as often as not, the send will follow the first.

I am suspecting that I like the design and build more than anything else. But preferably design and build a system, largly software.

And yes i do wonder if i am on the right course, or would some thing more computery (or &lt shudder &gt ISE) have been a better choice?

I enjoy what i have done, but its time to decide what i want to do, and its not quite as easy as the last few times!

I figure, like i say, design build is best. and software projects just seem to be my thing too…

Which Home is Home?

Woke up in my bed, in my room at home for the last time today. Well, sort of. It’s not like i am actually being thrown out or anything, just mum and dad are going to revamp “my” room, then call it “Ant’s” room, and turn what is currently his room into an office. Fair enough really, its not like I realy spend a huge number of nights there!

Its just one of those milestones I suppose….

Home for me is this relative thing. “Going home” could mean to my parents house, or to the flat in putney, or to a ship . It depends on the context as much as anything. Maybe its more i have multiple homes than anything else, several places where i am happy to be. What is a “Home” anyway?

Waiting for something

Its odd howmuch time i just seem to spend waiting. All summer i had loads of things i wanted to do, but i had to work. and now here i am waiting to meet someone, but not actually achieving anything. I think i might have to get into the habit of actually going home when i have the odd 4 hours spare. afterall, that will gaive me at least 2.5 hours at home, even allowing lots of spare time for travelling.

just what should i do right now… there is always something holding it all up….

Its been a while. Time to get back into reality. Odd things to say at the start of something entirly virtual…

I try not to take hackery personally. But it is hard when others say “I know cos i have been there” to correct them, without just ranting at them. Should i rant? or should i be calm? Is there annother way?

Its strange how i get to reflect every tuesday. I suppose this isnt as bad as last week, when i was really annoyed… But. It still seems to be a low point.

Its at this point when i start wondering about resigning. Curious I know. But every tuesday seems to be a revelation of where my loyalties are. And what is really important to me.

I suppose this is just the way it goes. Maybe i should just let go. But do i have to? That, really is the £1,000,000.00 question….
