Cycling Around

Although I have seen signs for it all the time, afterall, they are on my way to work, I only really noticed what the was in the last few days. Mainly because on friday I found myself cycling along some of it, having decided not to stop in the city center when I got there (I just stopped on the way back…)

I am on a bit of a fitness binge at the moment. I have even been out on my bike this morning. So those paths might come i useful later. There is also some kind of Natioanl Cycle Network whihc I have heard of before, but never yet bothered with…

Up to Now the problem has been that I was trying to use cycle paths to get into town, especially in evenings. This is not a terribly good idea, as they tend to be (in peterborough, the ones I have tried) unlit, badly surfaced, and include barriers every so often. Black barriers are not so easy to see in time in the dark…. So I have resorted to a road route to the other side of town, so I can use the cycle path/walkways alongside the A15 which are much better (on the most part, anyway)

The coming lighter evenings, especially now the clocks have moved, means I should be able to get out in the evenings, on nicer paths. There is a point to this all. Partly its so I am fit for when i go on holiday, partly so i can climb, and partly because of greater things

Whoosh, slosh, wheeeee…

More Domestication

My early rise this morning was soon rewarded, by a couple of guys from John Lewis’ with a new waching machine. Well *a* washing machine at all is an improvement, but my shiney new HotPoint certainly does the job.

This of course means I now have lots of washing hanging around. But at leats once the backlog is sorted, things will get easier.

I think that finishes the appliances I needed to collect. I might want a fat fryer or something, but unless freeview decides to get active in this neck of the woods (well, thats a nearby postcode…), i think i should stop spending my money for a bit!

Monopolise that

Microsoft don’t always make sense

This article about Microsoft saying the EU is wrong just seems to be a bit flimsy to me. Microsoft says you cannot remove Media Player because so many other programs rely on it. SO basically Microsoft is a monopoly and so should sta that way?

Bring on some standards so that many different programs will interact togetehr I say. Yay! Linux!

Traveling South West

Well, I really ought to make a mention of my weekend. Friday morning was spent driving down to Bristol, and despite the high winds, and the rain, it was alright really. The only problem, was just as I thought I was doing really well, I must have passed junction 18. I wanted to get off the Motorway at 18… oh well…

Of course the drive was not the reason. It was to celebrate Dawn’s Birthday. And that was fun, along with meeting her workmates. Pubs, a cocktail bar, and a curry. Makes me happy…

I even managed to avoid catching the lurgie.

Further South

I submitted my berth application forms today. I am after two trips on Tall Ships this summer. Here is hoping.

Left Side Diodes

Life. Dont talk to me about life.

Its really not that bad. Really. no its not. In part I am melodramatic. But that is a very comparitive judgement, at least I think so.

But i am still slightly screwed up. Am beginning to wonder if i ever have not been. And i was going to avoid therapy till october. Maybe some other solutions are available. SOme other fixes. Hmmmm…. drugs. well, in a way they are.

It all comes down to what makes me tick. As well as the little matter of what makes me me.

I am actually making a concerted effort in some ways to avoid someone at the moment. Ow, I am not usually this public. But (and here is the mud to clear water ratio going back to the murky side) I am also trying not to avoid the person in question. Its one person. But its two at the same time. Hello.

For the record, friends of mine used to write letters, and then not (at least not intentionally, it was usually someone being "helpful") post them. It would appear I am just too geeky.

US automonous vehicles

I have noticed a few reports on BBC News Online for a competition in the US based on making vehicles capabale of steering themselves.

It is almost a shame to hear that the competition was not a complete sucess. A shame really. As I would imagine it would be using some really cutting edge control systems. Think, if you were trying to get from A to B, even by foot, you are judging the best route, the easy route, the quick route. And in the wild, these may not all be the same thing… So when a machine can not only make this decision, but get the information to do it, well, that will be some step. Or motorised crawl. or something.

But wich is harder? getting the information? or processing it?

Reflections

Ripples make the images Blurry

I dont have to make sense. This rule is important, as it allows me to make no sense.

I often find it hard to express my feelings. or maybe its just having the guts to say things. The irony here about they way I find myself thinking this, is that I have kind of gone over this ground before. But then was different. here is now.

Feelings go round in circles, the same thoughts running on and on and on. In time they will probably either make sense, or just go away. but for now one thought leads to the other, and so round they go

Friendship is an important thing. Dont get me wrong. I value the people I trust. I value them a lot.

So I am not the worlds happiest person right now. For every emotion there is an equal and opposite emotion, acting in different ways, or at different times…..

Complicated fallback

Deals for Wheels

Have been getting car insurence quotes the last couple of days. But is cheaper better? For that matter is more expensive better? such a range of prices. but why? surely the best deal should converge… afterall, if they provide the same service, and they cannot tell what a driver is like, except by the same basic age/sex/etc then why not draw the same conclusions as regard probability of an accident?

In the Static

Some random ammusement?

My travels around the net do turn up a few things here and there. I dont have a list at the mean time, but here are one or two things…

Buffy is good for you or just a chance for the Beeb to plug the last series again? well, it caught my eye somehow…

I have been following the story of some Seemingly Arogant Software Company about which some bits from the BBC led me to a *very* funny article about SCO which made me chuckle at the apparent stupidity of afore mentioned people….
