Silly Season

So Much to Do. Excellent

Suddenly its looking up this spring. Even if the glorious weather we had this last few weeks has suddenly gone back to rain.

I have signed up to go climbing somewhere in wales in the middle of May. Which will be great, I hope. I certainly enjoyed it a few years ago. It would be nice to use all that gear I have got! However I dont have a helmet, so I suppose I will have to go to London Village at some point in the next couple of weeks to go shopping. If I cannot find one in Bristol this weekend that is

Add in a summer ball.

(Happy now gary?) and thats another weekend gone.

A beer festival then sailing. Hmmm, so I am still counting down the next few weeks!

Version 5

A New Day Dawns

Hello, and welcome to verison 5 of this amazing web presence. I hope you like it.

Most of the changes have been cosmetic in only a geeky way. Hence I now have static URLs for most things atleast, well, as long as you are just surfing around. I have also tried to make the source code a little easier to read, and removed some use of tables….

Any comments, and thoughts can be sent to my address at the end of this post. Or even added as a comment to this post!

Slippery Opening

Things that come around

The Hawking drama on BBC2 this evening was pretty engaging. shame that the follow up documentry about Stephen Hawking was to be shown on BBC 4. That is the BBC 4 whihc I cannot get.

Following that I am now watching Sliding Doors. This is actually a film I saw when it came out. Somewhere I suppose there will be the stub of a ticket, and thanks to one of my friends it will have the name of the person I saw it with I expect.

I must admit at this point to having a terrible memory for names ad faces. At time it is really apalling. In this case of course it isnt helped by the plot actually being two, running in parrallel. Its so much easier when she cuts her hair. Dont know what I am talking about? Evidently you have not seen the film…

Interesting bit is the way the film wobbles along. You think one reality is better than the other, but you dont really know. It keeps changing its mind…

In other news my windows box has gone on the blink. as ever. "Thanks Bill"

Anyway, I will watch this, with a slightly Irish coke (that’s Irish with an E) and contemplate a long and winding path. About 270miles of long and winding path…. :-)

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition..

Private Honesty

Real worries? or another mistake?

So Google mistakenly announced the great GMail idea on april 1st. This was probably not the best choice. Of course it was the Lunar Job which was the prank. The idea of Google providing free email was for real

So some people read the small print and get worried. What? A privacy problem with Gmail? I have two points to make about this. Firstly sticking the ads in will be done by machine. so who cares? I think of it as formatting…. of cours there will be some indication of content, if yo had all the information about the ads served… but that would be a general trend, and not specific as to what you were doing in your email. I would have thought some other organisation would probably have at least the ability to do that…

Google does point out in its tems and conditions that deleting your message may not remove it from their system. well. fair is fair. I doubt Hotmail bother writing all those random ones and zeros so that one couldnt look at their disks and see the spam i had just deleted…. Delete is not delete. even on your home computor. I dunno. People trust Microsoft

The problems with Internet Explorer

I am writing the new version of this website at the moment. All is well and good with my Mandrake box running Apache and PHP with a MySQL Database but the problem is when I try and test it for the rest of the world. This means Internet Explorer

Now the problem is simple. IE doesn’t do as it should. It does not act according to the standards which means that I spend my time doing it the easy way, and then having to make it look ok for the masses.

The problem is, what will make IE follow the standards. IE’s own little world means it runs fine with Microshaft stuff, I suppose its all to do with a certain board game
