Away Days

Keeping Amused

Just before i go get some sleep, for the start of my new work placement, a few comments on my weekend. This weblog is someimes just a way of me updating the world with what I am doing. I dont really knw what people want to get from this. I know some read it… but not knowing your audience makes producing content just a little erratic

A very early start on Sunday and a cycle to the train station meant I got to Westway Climbing Walls sometime after 10.20ish. Climbing with Andy, Steve, Andy, and eventually Mike followed. Including some leading, whihc was rather satisfying.

A bus journey, and stop off at a supermarket in Hamersmith, led us to the traditional ball games in the park. Thats Barnes Park. even if rain did try to stop play.

A train full of rugby fans led us to Putney, and after some (sometimes dubious) negotiation of the ticket barriers to a BBQ in putney. And then bizzarly a viewing of GhostBusters. This was bizzare in a couple of respects, partly for the group working out how old they were when it came out, and then that one of our number was not even born! The other thing was it wasnt quite like we rememebred it. Adult humour for example… ;-)

Window shopping with Mary, and catching up wiht my brothers has pretty much filled today. Good Bank Holiday I think

I could d with some sailign though… and really must work out my movements for the next month. I want to do many things, and they are bound to all happen on one weekend….

Confirmation

Looks like I will go after all

Time to pack my bags. After 7 mohts I will be leaving "Site Facilities" to move on to "Afetrmarket" (think customer services, spares, and really performance services – its the latter area for me)

All this can now be revealed as someone has requested a computor for me to use….

The Problem With Work. No. One of the Problems With Work

Annother in an increasing series of short, snappy blog posts. I am going to ahve to make it display all of a days posts at a time at this rate!

I had an urge to be "Bouncy" and random earlier today. But cannot really do this at work. I suddenly suspected this is why I can cope much better with the hours of DramSoc and Sailing, but tend to end up lethargic in front of a desk….

Meanwhile my ToDo list is slowly decreasing. the aim is of course to hit zero by friday…. whilst "Amount of Project" is greater than zero for the next placement. Or something.

Da Bomb?

De ja vue?

I really should post about the recent summer ball. I should also post about my less recent climbing in wales. but first…

We live and learn. Lets not use a certain inept lighting company again.

News Flash?

Something We Should Know?

A BBC News article about Microsoft support for Blogs is a little bit wiered as it is. But one of the extra images in the text was of a part of the Blogger Logo, with a note suggesting that "Blogger is owned by Microsoft rival Google" ok, but its not the most obvious rivallry. They dont compete on their main business (Hotmail/Gmail is the obvious competition) unless Google is going to release an operating system. I wonder what that would be like!

Spirit Net

Translating Life

In every part of life there are standards. Us Brits like to que for example (N.B. that is not "U.S. Brits&quot.)

Google News today brought up some gems about a Shiip of Fools

Unfortunatly the Internet is awash with trolls, of various kinds in various places which really can spoil the net. I dont really have time though to expand on the subject of anonimity and trust, and how we could get the latter despite the inherant presence of the former.

Obviously there are lots of related news stores to the one above

Choice

Is it because you are a monopoly?

Apparently consumers will have to pay Microsoft’s legal fee. But surely, as Microsoft is not an evil monopolistic evil corporation, then the consumers dont have to pay it, they could just go elsewhere. Or does someone not think they will avoid paying? Does someone have reasons for this?

Risks

Some Dodgey things out there it seems

I happened accross a link to an archive of posts relating to Risks to the Public in Computers and Related Systems. Amusing or horrifying? You can decide.

Lagged?

Thanks o a very good weekend, with a visit from a friend all the way from bristol, its a bit of a shock to the system to be up at just after 6.30am

Really must get more sleep this week, as I am off climbing this weekend. However, I have a number of other things to deal with at the moment (like taking my car to the garage tonight)

One problem is trying to sort out drivers on my Linux box for a web cam, and also to get my external modem working as a voice mail facility.

I will try to post here how to do it if i succeed….

The Problem

Realisations

The problem with weblogs is that (in my case atleast) is I am either writing with nothing to say, so its dull. Or I have lts to say, but do not actually get around to putting it down.

I randomply went to Bristol last weekend, one of bristol is visiting this weekend. Its kinda a life like that.

I look forward to going climbing, and a whole load of other things. Suddenly I am short of time. But I really should do even more.

The more the merrirer after all!
