Time to start experimenting

I have been trying to use my breadmaker to make cakes recently.

  • 2 Eggs
  • 60g butter (i used stork)
  • Milk to make up volume including eggs and butter to 300ml and then the whole is warmed in the microwave, cos its meant to be room temp liquids and soft butter, but it will all have come straight from the fridge)

  • 100g castor sugar
  • 100g currents
  • 250g plain flour (coat currents in flour to prevent sinking in batter)
  • vinilla flavour (a bit about 5ml)
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon baking powder

Mixing is simple. pour the above ingredients into bowl (i put in in the order given above.with the baking powder ontop of the dry stuff, and the wetstuff at the botom) and set off on a yeast free cycle (something like 14 minutes mixing, and 1hr20 bake.

This mix is quite dry, at least compared to what the book tells you to do, so i tend to give it a hand and scrape the flor from the ends into the mix.

It seemed to turn out alright last night. the usual problem is the whole thing sinks, but not this time it would seem. All I have to do now is try eating it tonight. I could do that whilst the chicken soup is warming through.

It really is time to break the silence

Christmas turned out to be a reasonably relaxing break. Also being broken was my budget, after something of a furniture spending spree. The easy part though is paying for it (this stuff is meant to last….) its only a signature afterall. The hard part as ever is getting the goods delivered. MFI (yes, but its all i needed for somethigns) deliver locally on wednesday and saturday. but i might have to work the saturday currently pencilled in (busy the ones before and after) so might have to reconsider that. that said, its currently meant to be going to my parents home, so there is a chance at the moment that it might still work, despite mum and dad likely to be away (they wouldnt accept my post code. )

New year in london was fun, and worth doing. I think we took the right choice in refusing to pay to get in anywhere, there were enough free pubs that were open…. I guess after the hype of new year in the last few years we might find that it is less viable to charge to get into somewhere that is normally free…
