On the Hoof

For some reason my foot was hurting as I started walking home. By the time I had finished both my feet were hurting. I must admit that I was planning on walking to Tesco later, but in the end I took the car. Just as well really, as my flat has started running low on a number of things, and so a small trolley load of things was more appropriate than just a couple of plastic bags worth….

And how did I injure my self? the 4 mile walk into the city centre, and the 4 mile walk home. Although I completed each way in about the right kind of One Hour time. I went to Argos and bought a camp bed for next weekend, as I thought this might be more comfortable, and possibly warmer than sleeping on the ground… It’s called Winter Camp. So no its not too early in the year for camping!

This means I did not get as much done today as I had intended. Visited my Allotment, discovered someone else has already dug it over in the last month (Its been wet on the weekends I have been home) so its now time to start planning what we are going to grow on it. I have been getting some filing done although this only starts raising more issues. Tomorrow I ought to look at our budgets for next year. Vicki is not so much a budgeting person, but I think there needs to be some coordination…. And I still have some grim looking grout in the shower which I want to replace with a bit of silicone sealant. I did however manage to get round to ordering a Stena Line brochure, as we are thinking of camping in Ireland this summer.

Nearly time to go and collect Vicki from the train station, and then back here to cook tea. Wonder where the pot of mint sauce is currently hiding. Mmmmmm

First Light

Well, it was nice to get home before it really got dark today. so I went and got my bike out from the garage, and put a pile of Boxes and DIY stuff in the garage to make room for it in the house. I also realise that I have not been posting here. I draft out thougts in my mind, but I usually do not have the ability to post at will. The company IT policy is another story.

Unlike a couple of weekends recently, I am not currently heading North to visit a bakery tomorrow. Time to get all that domestic stuff done….

Clearing Smoke?

It seems that the government could allow a free vote on the issue of smoking in public places, the thinking being that this will lead to a ban in all pubs. In theory market forces should make places turn non smoking. after all, enough of us would rather not spend all evening surrounded by smoke. But at the end of the day this does not seem to be happening. This legislation will restrict some people and their "right" to smoke, but it will give the rest of us the right to breath clean air. Excellent. Assuming it goes through that is…..

Changing Clothes

New Look

I liked the default theme for my blog. BUT not that much…. and despite that fact some might not agree, I have decided to use Tiga which looks very similar to my previous website. The colours are a little bit calmer though….

At the same time I have been experimenting with plug-ins. One of these is an RSS Plug-in which takes RSS from specified sites, and rolls it into one list of recent posts across them. It is cunning enough to only do this at most every hour. This has some impact on the first post each hour, but after that it runs from cache. I suppose a refinement is to use a cron job to generate the cache, and then always use the cache on the page… but I think that is an idea for later.

In the meantime, I have imported most of my posts over the last couple of years. I think that is enough for now. there are some gaps, but i will have to try and solve them some other time too….

Importing History

I have started to import all my old posts. Only problem is that the date format was not compatible, and so the date has defaulted to midnight 4th january 2006. I am slowly going through and correcting this…. I think i pulled through a couple of years worth of posts before the importer had had enough. I might pull through some more, but only once I have redated what I already have got there!

In a similar way, the galleries are also a work in progress, currently I am just copying over the images already on this server. In the coming weeks I expect to upload photos from my home archive. It will then become a question of dealing with the amount of photos, and how much I really want to put on line. At some point I think i am going to have to make some choices. Either that, or start uploading some smaller photos….

Looking Pretty

Hopefully people are now starting to see this site, it took me a little while, but i believe my .htaccess file is now redirecting my old feed to the new wordpress one.
I have now installed Gallery so this site now has a gallery which will allow me to display all my pictures.

This is something of a departure from my previous sites. I am now reasonably happy to have separate sections to my site, using a common bit of open source to provide blog/pages/photos/calender/etc rather than coding it myself. I will still have to sort out the site home page though, and i hope to manage to hack together an entrance to my entire site, which will use a bit from each area of the site, the latest posts, comments, photos, and what i am doing in the near future.

It should be more about content now. But then the coding of this site was fulfilling a need at the time!

Hello world!

Thought this site had disappeared??

I initially wrote the code to run my website myself. In the last few months the amount of comment spam i was getting was out of hand, and causing me bandwidth problems. Coupled with the fact that my job is currently giving me plenty of opportunity to do coding, I have decided to follow other people, and use someone else’s blogging software. So here we are, courtesy of wordpress which i chose as it seems to be used by so many other people. I am sure that I will get round to customising it in the fullness of time….
