Weblog Announcements by Email

Yes, I have been fiddling around with my wordpress installation a lot over the last few days. I have been tinkering with a few bits, what I have really been trying to do is implement an aggregated list of my friends recent posts, There is something similar in my sidebar, but I was trying to do something that would not depend on the feed having a Post Time within it. It all got a bit messy in the end, so I really must give up as a lost cause….

Today however I have quickly implemented the ability to subscribe to this blog, and get an email when I update it. I cannot guarantee this will work faultlessly, but I will know if it works myself when I publish this post as I should get an email myself…

UPDATE: The system works.

My Job got….

… Outsorced to India anyone? Although it seems that many students are getting into outsourceing early in their carears. Well, its one response to market forces.

The article talks of systems to prevent this sort of cheating. I am sure that simple plagerism is easy to catch, but if each person gets someone else to do their coursework, then its going to be harder….

Units of Measurement

It seems many things are bigger/taller/longer than they were previously. this must be the effect of Nelson’s Column turning out to be shorter than was previously thought. You can imagine all the displays in various museums now needing adjusting to aqueeze in another/some more column. ;-)

I guess the column was errected so long ago that the drawings/plans were not precise about the height to be achieved. Or maybe someone was on the fiddle…

Help Wanted

I wonder if any of the readers of this site can help me, seeing as how so many of them use Wordpress too….

My page is not loading fully. I am not sure why, and there does not see to be any error message, but it doesnt reach the tag at the end of the page. parts of the footer are missing.

This seems to be caused by my using a “virtual” to include the random photo in the top right corner. I really fear i am going to have to resort to cron and cashing to produce that….

Is it an execution time thing? Any body know?

Test Results

Its the summer, its been really hot, and I have not worried about test results in a few years, so I might as well recap the feelings.

I was even up until late last night preparing, the screws holding on the front number plate on my VW Polo (OK, so the polo link is to new ones, and mine isn’t, but I do still love it) had rusted to uselessness. Luckily firmly gripping the outside edges with pliers allowed me to undo them. Yes folks, its been MOT time again.

Unfortunately this year it really matters, as i will need to use my car a lot in a couple of weeks time, and if it had come up with problems i would have been in a bit of a pickle.

I even have one of the new style MOTs so no more visits to the post office for me, I can do it on the Internet. Which is great, but if I happen to be living near a small post office then I may still find my self making sure they have some custom from me. After all, it costs me as much either way.

And whilst writing this, I discover there appears to be a Polo owners club. mmmm, now that’s a sticker I really need in my rear window, some time, when i think it is worth ?5….

credits

Today I did some tinkering with the site, and it once again looks more like what I want.

I have managed to get the random photo thing working again, thanks largely to block-random-enhanced.PHP and I managed to do it as an “include” in php, rather than the Iframe solution, which I have instead used for the upcoming events page. Quite a bit of scratching my head trying to sop gallery sending an unwanted header after wordpress had already sent some, and started the content. It doesn’t seem to hurt if the problem (which was in gallery/lib/lang.php) is removed though!

Now I just need to populate the web-calendar, of which more later….
