Its Halloween today apparently. Beggers on the doorstep, and all that.
At least the telegraph reporting about Halloween is amusing.

Madeline has asked the following be known.
She enjoyed looking round this new house. And it adds to the variety how Ed and Vicki keep moving things around. But she is bored of sleeping on the bed and would like more chairs/sofas/wardrobes/piles of clean washing to sleep on too.
She would also like out.
(this leaves Ed wondering how the Plumber coped with his visit scheduled for earlier today)
She is really not keen on this 3 weeks indoors thing. And its cruel being able to see the outdoors through the patio windows. Yes, it is just mud, and yes it would be walked into the house, but her paws would be clean soon after even if the carpet wouldn’t. And that should be all that matters.

And now we have our new home. Its always nice to get a phone call saying that not inconsiderable sums of money have made their way through the ether, and you can now go and pick up the keys!
All we have to do now is move everything. Change lots of addresses, and move phone and broadband services (apparently the latter will take 15 working days. ho hum. as long as we don’t need to keep the BT line going much past the 6th November….
back to dismantling things then, and then time to load the car. Again.

Sitting in the office, working late. My Own fault really (well, I blame Abbey, but that is another story)
Faithless is playing, and here I am hacking away at some code (as it happens) and suddenly i realise that what this office really needs is a bar down stairs. It feels later than the time it is, and I wonder if a pint of Youngs would be a nice accompaniment to my last can of coke from my drawer.
The tea, whilst effectively on tap courtesy of my employer is not the right kind of tea.
I am sure the exercise over the next few weeks as myself and Vicki move into our new home will blow out the cobwebs. So to speak.

Hmmm, I really must subscribe from the E-Cops mailing list for Peterborough, but it really is bringing in some gems…
How to keep your kids safe when trick or treating
Halloween is a holiday loved by kids everywhere. It?s a fun time to dress
up like silly or scary characters and go trick-or-treating in the
neighbourhood. Be sure your kids are safe while trick-or-treating with
these quick tips:Wear bright colours
Both parents and kids should wear brightly-coloured clothing. If you are
wearing a costume that is dark in colour, apply reflective tape to parts of
your clothes or shoes. (Many communities enforce a trick-or-treating curfew
to prevent children from roaming after dark. Be sure to check for any
curfew rules that may apply to your community.)Be sure your child can see
Smaller children love store-bought costumes that come complete with a
facemask. Before you leave the house, double-check to make sure your child
can see through the eyeholes of the mask. This will help to prevent them
from tripping, falling or running into something while they trick-or-treat.Obey the rules
If you are trick-or-treating in a city, remember to follow traffic safety
rules. Always look both ways before crossing the street. Stay on the paths,
walk at a normal pace, stay in well lit areas. Try to have an adult or
older brother or sister with you.Visit familiar places only
Take your children to trick-or-treat at places where you know people. Try
not to take them to strange houses or places that look unsafe. Remember the
?never talk to strangers,? rule!Inspect all sweets before you eat them
This is a commonly known rule of trick-or-treating, and yet so many parents
don?t follow it. Parents should remove all unwrapped sweets from buckets
(home made cakes etc) There are just too many dangers to eating unwrapped
sweets or treats to take a chance with your child. Look for holes in
plastic wrappers as well.Try to respect the people at the houses you are calling at. If they are
elderly then don?t frighten them ? remember that they could be your nan or
grand dad and would you want them being frightened.
If you do tricks on people then don?t do any damage to their property or
throw eggs as you could get into a lot of trouble with them and the police.BUT DON?T MAKE A NUSIANCE OF YOURSELVES ? BE RESPECTFUL ? BE SAFE
and
HAVE FUN!
Hmm, this looks awfully American. well, it says sweets, but I found some very similar content on a website
I am sure the shops didn’t used to go this crazy over a pagan festival when I was little. Mind you, at least it hides some of the Christmas stock.

Hmmm, so reading the FAQs at TV Licencing, I begin to wonder how often Tesco get fined for selling me freeview boxes. It would appear they are meant to give all sorts of info to TV Licencing about me. Information they do not have.
Meanwhile, don’t you love how they assume if there is an address without a licence then someone is doing something naughty?

I found this page very useful in answering a question I have had for a while. How to download streaming audio files so i can listen to them later, or listen to them on a device which isn’t connected to the net…. and it told me to get Flashget. so i did. and it works great. I’ll have to try its advice about converting to mp3 later.

I briefly wonder how to update the trivia in an iMDb entry. in the trivia for Brassed Off it mentions a fish and chip shop called “In Cod we Trust” I happen to know that this building really exists. But it is in some disrepair. Thats cos the local free news paper said so. Here is a similar article I have in my mmind that its going to be turned into a bakery though. and a little about Grimethorpe
