Following my missing Inbox contents I suddenly realised that I could no longer see most of my sent mail from the last year. Shocking….

Then i discovered it had all gone into trash. So I have restored all my Trash back to the inbox, and later on, I will have to sift through all that.

Bit odd though

It seems a couple of taps are dripping at home.

After spending 6 months trying to get the shower fixed, I thought I would take care of it myself. Finally got round to buying some washers yesterday. Bought a selection pack, as I was not sure what size I would need.

Having dismantled the tap, I discovered that the actions I planned to take were not going to work. The tap is of the quarter turn variety, and has some kind of ceramic washers apparently. Fantastic. So it looks like there is nothing I can do then.

The best course of action is apparently to get a replacement of the shut-off insert bit. Obviously I am going to need to work out the make/model of my taps first. I suspect the odds of that information being in the documentation received from the builders is quite slim….

Suddenly gmail logged me out. It seems to do this every week. So I just log back in. But what did it mean my user name and password didn’t match? Hmmm?

Managed to recover it (lucky that the secondary email is my own domain, and I can stop the forwarding to actually read the email…)

But now it has archived all the email that was in my inbox. So all those things I was leaving to work through, are now lost. Well, lost amongst the noise anyway.

This email thing seems to be far to difficult for me. I really must sort out all my email and data backups when I finish being go-go-go at work.

Of course I could try starting it now… but i don’t want to do half a job. and this is meant to be a holiday!

This blog now uses HashCash to try and differentiate between humans commenting and the darn spammers.

Please let me know if you find any probelms with it….

I think it needs Java script to work. Anyone want to tell me why restricting commenting to those using Java script is a bad thingTM?

Fiddling with the website again…

I use various King widgets. These stopped working when I moved to WordPress 2.3.1

The fix though is simple. In each widget file comment out the include to wigets.php

Job done.

Some people might have noticed that this blog is now being hosted at eddie-brown.net following my forced migration recently.

Hopefully I will be able to recover the last of my files from Purple Cloud later.

The root of the problem was the amount of spam emails that were passing through my account. I was shocked when my new hosts (
HostMonster.com
) said they do not provide catch all email forwarding. I have got around this problem by using Google Apps for my email (by setting the MX records for eddie-brown.co.uk with 123-reg.co.uk) and now eddie-brown.co.uk forwards to eddie-brown.net. In time I plan to get the .co.uk as an adon domain for the .net, but i need to get round to dropping a support ticket into the system to get that setup…

This has also meant that i brought forward the planned roll out of a WordPress upgrade. I can still sort out the plugins I want to use over christmas though….

Let me know if you experience any problems with this site.

Bizarrely, I seem to have difficulties receiving Bank Cards at my new address. Its strange. At my old house, they wouldn’t send me cards, (and instead sent them to “my” branch, and then didn’t notify me), whilst here the cards never seem to get through.

Then there is the joy of getting to the bank whilst it is open…. wound these parts they only seem to open 10-3 at the absolute maximum. And then for some reason there is always a queue!

I am not confident of receiving the card prior to my old one running out…. Maybe I should just get them to send it to me at work, along with all my other mail.

We have all met people like the following…

Due as much to my ineptitude as anything else in not keeping on top of my purplecloud mailboxes, I’ve managed to lose all my old emails. well, the ones I had not already made a copy of elsewhere that is.

Ho Hum.

Mind you, if they were really *that* important i really should have done something about them, shouldn’t I?

Truth is, that with Gmail, I have got lazy. I don’t read everything, and I now don’t have a backup of my email. If Gmail were to lose it, then I would lose it all instead.

Another Christmas project, to sort out a proper mail server at home, and arrangements for filtering the wheat from the chaff.

If you sent me an email this afternoon, there is a chance it fell between the cracks. try resending, it should work now.
