Dandelion Clock

I received a Reuben Stanley clock for Christmas. Would be great if these take off… mine happens to be signed by the designer on the reverse!

The writing on the gift tag hoped I would like it. I do. Only now we are having to work out which of the places we want to hang it it is actually going to hang in. I think the home office would look a good home for it, but Vicki seems to want it in the hall.

(hopefully this will help towards google finding Reuben Stanley too)

First Circuit

Until last weekend, when i just rode my bike up and down a few roads on the estate, I don;t think I had ridden my bike for over a year.

Friday evening, I went out on a very short propper ride.

Average Speed: 13.8mph
Distance: 3.41 miles
Time: 14:47.8

Like I said, only a short one. But a start.

This is nonsense. I know this because since last October I am not insured with them…

Seems like a pretty abusive marketing tactic to me. actually my insurance runs out in 60 days. I suppose today they could give me a quote…. but I think i might ignore them on principle now.

This email and any files sent with it are intended only for the named recipient. If you are not the named recipient please telephone/email the sender immediately. You should not disclose the content or take/retain/distribute any copies.

Perspective

Obviously, I should not watch the news – its only going to be depressing. But I wonder how much truth there is in the following quote for a story on El Reg

Of course flu is nothing to be, umm, sneezed at. It kills about 1,500 people in the UK every winter – but of course that is dull old people flu, not this headline-friendly new flu.

Meanwhile the lower bound could be only twice as bad mortality for “swine flu” as for common or garden flu

And the NHS website is quite good at giving a good science background as to why the science is not generating real answers just yet

Oh, and I think the same people who comment on BBC’s Have your say, are now commenting on the NHS website too. Is it me or is it bizzare that what I thought would be a public information website with *facts* somehow is a place for public opinion instead.

Approved.

I passed my assessment on Tuesday, so I am now approved to deliver the National Water Hygiene scheme. Until April 30th that is. Good job I am also booked in for the trainer briefing that should last another 3 years!

Medicses

I have never been that Anti Medic. Anti-Certain-Medics-In-Particular maybe, but i could see the difference betwen the trees and the forest.

Doc Crippen caught my eye today.

Imperial College, the Imperial College, really is offering a PhD in

“Gender-related differences and game-based learning for virtual patients in Second Life.”

Really.

Gift Lists

Some people may be either more organised than me, or under the impression that I am not organised. For example, I have been asked a number of times where the gift list for my forthcoming wedding is. It has always been planned to be (at least in part) at John Lewis, and back on January 23rd it was registered, the number will be 350102.

You could try to go to the John lewis website to buy something. Emphasis on try as you will see it is not open till 11th April. That’s not me sabotaging anyone’s effort to buy stuff, that’s just the way it works.

However, all is not lost. You could instead contact Lamb’s of Stamford. You could go and visit them in person or you could give them a call and buy over the phone if you wish.

Why? Partly to support a local shop – and also because they stock what we want (and certainly what I want the most), crockery from Denby’s Jet range (the black stuff, not the stripes, dots, or grey), cookware from Le Creuset, and we found some glasses we liked too.

And then when we get back from our honeymoon it can all be delivered….

of course, no one is restricted to the above items, the only thing I would prefer to avoid is vouchers… cash towards our honeymoon would be preferred… but people can do what they like, and what ever they do will be appreciated. After all, I am more bothered about people actually being there on the day!

Mobile Working

I wonder if a Nokia 6300i with wi-fi ability will let me use hot spots in say McDonalds, or on National Express trains for a bit of light browsing…. Anyone know?
