Occasionally the Number 10 ePetition system throws up a real gem. For example, petition the prime minister to quit. No specific reason, just go.

I have never been that Anti Medic. Anti-Certain-Medics-In-Particular maybe, but i could see the difference betwen the trees and the forest.
Doc Crippen caught my eye today.
Imperial College, the Imperial College, really is offering a PhD in
“Gender-related differences and game-based learning for virtual patients in Second Life.”
Some people on the web were surprised that amongst the many things a Police Force might carry out a risk assesment of, was that of a number of their employees winning the lottery.
I cannot see how people would be surprised about this. It is not unusual for groups of people who work together to have some kind of lottery syndicate, and it is not unheard of for these people to win the jackpot. This then is something that could possibly happen.
Compare this to all the other risks that may be considered, fire, flood, terrorists, outbreak of avian pandemic flue…. and it looks like (comparatively speaking) there is actually a high chance of the lottery win scenario occurring.
So my Student loan statement is alte this year, as apparently there was a delay in recieving the data from the “Inland Revenue”, I think he meant to say HM Revenue and Customs Maybe the details were delayed in the Internal post?
An amusing hour was spent watching a documentary on BBC3 last night, part of their Mischief series. Bust My Ass basically showed how easy it is to get arrested for use of bad language and being overheard by a police officer, or by wearing a t-shirt with a political statement on it.
Along with Mark Thomas, and his Mass Lone Demonstrations (sadly the hilarious radio 4 programme is no longer available to listen again), and a geek arrested on the tube it really make you proud to be British, doesn’t it?
Kids and Booze crops up as a discussion point quite often. And it is always amazing how many people don’t realise that the law is a lot more complicated than “no alcohol till over 18″
The Direct Gov website has some guidance on alcohol, young people, and the law. It says what i thought it would say, to be honest….
I am still not amused about what the telegraph is making out to be the possibility of social engineering of university admissions.
I should have thought it was obvious. University is for bright people. Universities should be selecting the best people for their courses, not trying to admit some pre determined quota of people due to social/racial/sex reasons.
If you find that some section of society are under represented at university, then perhaps the right thing would be to teach them to spell/count (depending on whether you want them to do English or Engineering of course) and make it so that they can afford to go.
Then again, maybe you should re assess the point of making them pay to just get a worthless bit of paper.
Do you think he will take any notice of a pettition of ID Cards? But I suppose it is worth a punt.
I don’t even have to think about civil libertires before i think it is a stupid idea. I don’t want to purchase 1/60,000,000th of this pointless white elephant.
Doc Crippen has been complaining about some journalism at the BBC. And this has put me onto News Sniffer which is an amazing look at bbc news…
Take the “Watch Your Mouth” for example. Nothing like a bit of moderation is there. Takes me back to my various loose associations with Live! that does…
I have not taken the quiz in a while. And was maybe a little disturbed by what it output for me. Or am I all that surprised?
LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and
economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one
that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.
Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose
government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate
diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.
Ok, maybe its not that far off.
