Its cool.

I have been looking at compasses. My current compass is “OK” except it is no good at all for reading off a compass bearing. I suppose I will end up scratching a north marking line somewhere so that I can read values. Its odd. But then it works quite alright for taking a bearing from a map so that I can follow it on the ground!

and whilst looking at the many nice compasses on the Silva website, i found the rather quirky Open Up Compass. cool. Its like a multi tool – but its a compass. I guess the edges must be perpemndicular to north, or something, else who will it work with the 1-2-3 system? (pdf 105kB)

Actually, if you want to buy me one…. then

Silva Compass 3 Militaire is the kind I will probably buy myself, or the

SILVA 4B NATO Compass would be nice if i could justify it.

I sometimes forget which Petzl head torch I am after, but that is the one. basically so i can have a small head torch for emergency use. and for emergencies it needs to be small enough that I have it on me when i need it.
