Twittering via SMS

I have for a few years been posting to twitter via SMS, using +447624801423. Having just got back from a voyage aboard Stavros S Niarchos, i looked at Facebook, which should have status updates from twitter, and nothing had appeared. Odd.

It turns out twitter now uses the number 07624800379 – i am not going to use the short code as that costs me money, the long number comes out of my text bundle….

So no-one heard about the fun i was having whilst away, clearing out the fore peak store. Shame.

WordPress 2.9 (Again)

earlier I said

I have done my almost annual update of wordpress. On this occasion, i backed up, deactivated all plugins and used the auto update. i then tried to reactivate all plugins, this muked up something behind the scenes, so i disabbled them all by renaming the plugins directory! when i activateded them one by one, and updated a few it all worked.

Oh, and i have learned that i have the “other” ad rotator plugin. but that is fixed now too.

If anyone sees anything that is broken, please do let me know!

and then it all went horribly wrong, so i had to go back to my Database backup from this morning.

“Now Reading” plugin appears to be broken in WordPress 2.9, so I am now using “Now Reading Reloaded”

so i think it all works now. however do let me know if you think other wise!

WP-Define

I use WP-define to give definitions like the explanation of what GTD means. (hover your cursor over GTD, and you will see what I mean)

I discovered that I couldn’t change the settings on the plugin, so i installed the latest version. That still didn’t work – the link to the settings page was broken….

I opened the plugin itself for editing within wordpress, and found the line that said

add_options_page("Definitions", "WP-Define", 1, 'wp-content/plugins/wp-Define/manage_wp-define.php');

and changed to

add_options_page("Definitions", "WP-Define", 1, 'plugin-editor.php?file=wp-Define/wp-Define.php');

And now it works.

Making Links

Upgrading my wordpress means that inevitably, some of the plugins I used to use now no longer work.

I like to have richly linked posts, its not that I want readers to leave, but i do want them to have access to background information. This is my personal bias.

So that routine links i would make all the time now show up, I have had to switch from using aLinks to using kb linker. This post is realyl an internal test to see if it works. If there are links in this post, then it is working, otherwise, it is not!

update: No, it didnt work initially. It seemed to need me to go into the plugin options, and submit as though I had made changes. It works now!
